Huawei P20 Release Date, Price & Specification

The Huawei P20, P20 Lite and P20 Pro will launch on 27 March. We round up the most interesting rumours on the new Huawei flagship phone, which features dual-cameras front and rear.

The Huawei P10 is about to be replaced with the Huawei P20, aka the Huawei P11. Coming in standard, Pro and Lite versions the Huawei P20 will not be announced at MWC 2018 but at a separate event in Paris on 27 March, a video invite confirms.

The new Huawei phone will be available in three models: 'Emily', the standard phone in Ceramic Black/Twilight; 'Charlotte', a Pro version in Ceramic Black/Twilight; and 'Anne', a Lite model in Midnight Black/Klein Blue/Sakura Pink.

The Huawei P20 Pro was originally thought to be called the Huawei P20 Plus, but a billboard in Spain has confirmed the naming.

Android Authority has posted new photos of an early prototype of the standard model (visible throughout this article) that give away its design. It notes that contrary to rumours there are just two rear cameras, though it's possible that the Pro model will see three.

AA also says the P20 will feature slimmed down screen bezels, a virtual volume button, rounder edges, dual (rather than mono) speakers and USB-C, but no headphone jack.

More images have leaked via a TENAA listing, revealing a vertical dual camera at the rear and a second dual-camera at the front.
When is the Huawei P20 release date?

The Huawei P20 will launch at a Paris event on 27 March 2018.

An invite to the launch event on 27 March reads: "SEE MOOORE WITH AI." The triple Os may allude to the rumoured triple rear camera.

How much will the Huawei P20 cost in the UK?

Going on the £449 price tag of the Huawei P9 and the slightly more expensive £569 price tag of the Huawei P10, we imagine that the Huawei P20 will cost somewhere in the range of £550 and £600. While Huawei’s flagship prices were once competitive when compared to Samsung and Apple, it’s slowly changing.
What are the rumoured new features and design?

We can take a look at sister company Honor’s 2017 flagship, the Honor 9, for an idea of what to expect. The 2016 Honor 8 had a very similar design and feature set to 2017’s Huawei P10, including the dual-camera setup on the rear.

With that being said, the Honor 9 is the first Honor phone to ‘do an Apple’ and remove the 3.5mm headphone jack from the smartphone, suggesting that it could also be removed from this year’s Huawei P20. It’s a move that Apple has faced much criticism for, and is something that many Android manufacturers have avoided thus far.

Leaked renders suggest the Huawei P20 will actually have three cameras at the rear. As mentioned earlier there might well be three models including a Pro or Pro model as well as a Lite version. Slashleaks has obtained what looks like a render of the phone showing three cameras on the back.

Other leaks from the site show another model with a dual camera setup as well as a 'notch' in the screen similar to the iPhone X. A case for the Lite model also shows dual cameras and a rear fingerprint scanner but a regular style screen. The Lite version recently passed through the FCC with a 6.1in (2280x1080px) 19:9 'notch' screen and a 2900mAh battery.

In a concept video published in August the Huawei P20 is shown to have a titanium body, a full-screen display and an under-glass fingerprint scanner:

However, just like Apple's iPhone X the upcoming Huawei P20 is thought to maximise screen space on its 6.01in display by replicating Apple's notch.

Whereas the iPhone X has an 19.5:9 screen ratio, the Huawei P20 (or at least one version of it spotted in benchmarks) will have an 18.7:9 screen. The phone in question has a full-HD screen, whereas we're expecting the P20 Pro to feature a Quad-HD screen.

We expect it will feature the 10nm Kirin 970, which is the chip that will feature in the Mate 10 and is said to deliver 25 times better CPU performance and 50 times greater energy efficiency.

Huawei leaked the Kirin 970 at IFA 2017 ahead of CEO Richard Yu's keynote speech where he announced the chip will be inside the Mate 10. That phone will be announced on 16 October.

We're assuming that the P20 will get it, too. The Kirin 970 is an octa-core chip (4x2.4GHz Cortex-A73 and 4x1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores) with a 12-core GPU all built on a 10nm process like the Snapdragon 835 co-made with Samsung.

It's Huawei's first mobile AI computing platform featuring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and will be open to developers. The firm says it will bring 'AI experiences to life and changing the way we interact with our devices'.
