Android Oreo is the talk of the town, but in a distant future, it will be outclassed by the next major version of Android, Android P (presumably Android 9), which Google has already started working on.
Every year Google announces a new version of Android with some interesting features and background changes that enhance the overall Android experience in subtle yet meaningful ways. However, the sad story is that it takes another 2 years till the majority of users get to taste it.
So, if you want to buy a phone today, but would prefer one that remains up to date and gets the next Android P, here are a few phones that are assured to get one.
Phones That Will Get Android P Update
- Google Pixel
- Google Pixel XL
- Google Pixel 2
- Google Pixel 2XL
- Xiaomi Mi A1
- OnePlus 5
- OnePlus 5T
- Moto X4
- HTC U11 Life
Google Pixels
All “Made by Google” smartphones – Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL, are entitled to Android P update. And, if you own the second-generation of Pixel devices you will get Google software upgrade for the next three years.Pixel phones run on stock-Android OS and the fact that they are manufactured by Google entitles them to direct support from the search-engine giant itself. To get more out of your personalized phone, Pixels rely on machine learning and adapt themselves with time for the better.
Xiaomi Mi A1
Usually, Xiaomi only produces MIUI based Android smartphones that rarely see version updates, but Mi A1 is an exception. The phone is the only Android One handset by the Chinese maker and is the only one that has been guaranteed Android P upgrade. As of today, the phone runs on stock-Android, out of the box, and will be upgraded to Android 8.0 and Android 9.0.
The handset also benefits from dual rear cameras (2X Zoom), slim full metal body, and a 5.5-inch full HD display.
OnePlus 5 and 5T
OnePlus 5 and its successor OnePlus 5T will get Android P update as well. Both the phones, currently, run on the Android Nougat with OnePlus testing the beta version of Android Oreo on some devices. The stable version of Android Oreo with Oxygen OS will be rolled out to all OnePlus users early next year.
OnePlus 5 and 5T are the most balanced-out smartphone available at a mid-range price. Both the smartphones employ industry’s latest hardware and features.
Moto X4
Lenovo-owned Motorola recently launched Moto X4in India. The displeasing fact is that the Indian version isn’t powered by Android One, which means it will probably only be updated to Android Oreo. But, if you buy the US version of Moto X4, Android P is guaranteed.
The Moto X4 is equipped with features like 5.2-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB onboard storage, dual-rear cameras, 16MP front-facing camera and 3000mAh fast-charging battery.
